General Synod Election Candidates 2026

I am writing to seek your prayerful support and your vote as I stand for election to
the General Synod.
It is both a privilege and a responsibility to serve the Church at such a level, and I
believe God is calling me to offer my gifts, experience, and heart for His mission in
this way. I have led a varied working life including as a Secondary School teacher
and running small businesses which has given me valuable insight into the secular
society.
Over the years, I have been blessed to serve the Church of England in various
parishes and dioceses — from starting out as a Sunday School Superintendent and
PCC/Standing Committee member to progressing now to working as an Authorised
Lay Minister (Preaching and Worship/Liturgy) for St Mary the Virgin Church in
Felpham, West Sussex. This is a very full commitment and includes supporting the
clergy, leading Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer, regular Services of the Word in
Care Homes, Home Communion Coordinator, PCC and Standing Committee, Altar
Server, Diocesan Synod and Deanery Synod representative, House Group and
Prayer Group Leader. As an ALM, I am involved in mission with the local community
of all ages, endeavouring to be the link between the local neighbourhood and the
Church. Through these experiences, I have seen both the joys and the challenges
our Church faces: the struggle to regain and increase attendance after the Covid
pandemic, particularly amongst the young, the need to recognise and act upon the
many ways we can outreach to our local communities, and the call to be the natural
pastoral home for our neighbourhood.
I believe the General Synod must always make decisions that are scripture-led and
inspired prayerfully by the Holy Spirit with the love of Christ being at the heart of all
we do, without which there will be no unity.
If elected, I would keep the heart of the Gospel in all my deliberations and decision-
making, encourage local parishes in mission and outreach ensuring resources are
used wisely and effectively. Of paramount importance is the need to listen
respectfully to different perspectives while seeking common ground rooted in Christ.
Whilst working collaboratively with clergy, I would hope to champion the voice of the
laity and the wider community to so that the Church remains a credible,
compassionate and bold witness in society.
I will humbly apply the knowledge and experience of many years to listening
carefully before speaking and in all matters praying for God’s guidance and grace,
especially when addressing difficult issues.
I believe that we have a calling to show the depth of love and compassion of our
Lord Jesus Christ to the world in everything we say and do.

If you entrust me with your vote, I will serve with integrity, humility, and a
steadfast commitment to Christ and His mission.
