WHO AM I?
My wife Lynn and I, have been married for 37 years and both
originate from Yorkshire. We have 3 daughters, who
between them have blessed us with 5 grandchildren.
I spent 30 years in the Fire and Rescue Service and ended up
living in East Sussex where I was the Deputy Chief Fire
Officer for the county. I then did 10 years as a Fire
Consultant before eventually retiring from paid work in

In my spare time I love walking, travelling and reading

and to keep fit I play Padel.
My career exposed me to many amazing opportunities and
gave me experience of the strategic workings of both
national and local government. Among my corporate
responsibilities I specialized in managing a property portfolio
and I also was the lead principal officer for Personnel and
Training (HR). Part of my responsibilities was also to
represent Senior Officers nationally on the Pension Scheme
Board.
I also served for 10 years as a magistrate, have been a school
governor and in more recent years I have been a trustee of
a number of Christian charities. I am currently chair of a
grant making trust that funds many Gospel focused activities
and projects. This has given me the privilege of seeing God’s
work in tangible projects of varying kinds all over the world,
from youth camps in the Ukraine to church planting in South
America, from bible translation to orphanages in Africa.
Having been a church warden for over 5 years at a previous
church I now serve on the PCC of All Souls, Eastbourne.

WHY AM I STANDING FOR SYNOD?
My passion is to see the Grace and Truth of God’s Word proclaimed to the nations and with my life
skills and experiences as stated I humbly believe that I can be both a useful and valuable of General
Synod.
For example, recruitment and selection for promotion were an integral part of some of the more
senior roles I undertook in the Fire Service. Subsequently, when I was a governor of a school in
Eastbourne I was able to use these experiences to assist in the selection and recruitment of a new
headteacher and, likewise, I believe experiences such as these will allow me to contribute effectively to
debates on these kind of subjects.
I love the traditions and beauty of the Anglican Communion and want more and more people to come
to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. If I am elected to synod I would commit to:

Being prayerful in my service and always seeking the Lord’s guidance through His Spirit for guidance
and direction when voting;

Being a faithful member of synod, devoting the necessary time and effort to reading and preparing for
debates on all issues;

To upholding and safeguarding the truth of Scripture in all areas.
