How I hope to serve the Church of England
I have loved and happily served the Anglican communion all my life, fully upholding the Nicene Creed
(together with other Christian denominations of the worldwide catholic body of Christ, His church). I will
prayerfully endeavour to help our church strive towards unity and love, and service to our LORD and each
other, knowing that Jesus loves and accepts every one of us unconditionally. I believe that Jesus’ aim is to
sanctify us by His Holy Spirit and make us more and more like Him, giving Father God the No.1 position in
every part of our lives.
Particular interests

1. Mission/evangelism at home and abroad.

a) My experience of Islam and the Muslim faith gained through two decades of charity work in
Indonesia is highly relevant in our current national conversation and climate.
b) Mission to our immediate contacts of whatever faith or none is also of the utmost importance
to me, knowing that Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through me.” (John 14:6), and that His parting words were, “Go and make disciples… I am
with you…” (Matt 28:19-20).
c) The Mission of Giving (as termed by Bishop Ruth Oct. 2021) (Mal 3: 8-10; Matt 23:23). I want to
encourage church leaders to help their congregations develop their gifts of giving, so that the joy
and freedom that comes from giving tithes and offerings with a cheerful and giving heart may be
experienced by individuals and their churches, and consequently help to enable the church as a
whole to be more intentionally missional.

1. Clergy wellbeing
   Having a number of clergy friends from different dioceses, I have witnessed the pressure clergy are

under and I want the House of Laity to support them (and their spouses) as best we can, including
trying to ensure all clergy are in stipendiary roles. (1 Tim 5:18).
Previous church involvement
• 1969 - 1982 St Mary’s Parish Church Horsham, including leading ‘Credo’, a worship band, in the
late 70s and early 80s, which introduced monthly modern worship; as well as to other churches in
the diocese and further afield by leading occasional services.
• 1983 - 1991 Musical Director St. Jude’s Parish Church Southsea Portsmouth; traditional and
modern styles of services.
• 1991 – 1997 St Simon’s Church Southsea.
• 1997 – current Member of Chichester Diocese, initially attending St. John the Evangelist
Southbourne (member of Mission team) and since 2011 Holy Trinity Church Bosham. I am very
comfortable in both traditional and modern styles of worship.
• Trained at The Royal Academy of Music London (organ, piano, guitar); realising my life-long
vocation to help people draw closer to Jesus through musical expression.

Current church involvement
• Stand-in organist at Holy Trinity Bosham (HTB).
• PCC and Deanery Synod member (HTB); also, in previous churches.
• Leading a weekly ecumenical Bible study group (affiliated to HTB) with my husband, Rob.
• On the HTB Junior Church team (Sunday School), member of a Bible study group and Lectio
Divina group.
• Member of ‘Open the Book’ (Bible Society), acting out Bible stories in school assemblies in 9
schools in the Chichester area.
• Member of a Mission prayer group and Persecuted Christians prayer group.

Previously:
• Helped co-ordinate hosting of many Ukrainians in Bosham and locally.
• Co-ordinated twice monthly prayer for Bosham village.

Charity work
For 20 years I have been Chair of Trustees for ‘BEATS’ Charity, helping earthquake and tsunami victims,
principally in Indonesia, partnering with a number of Indonesian Christian charities. BEATS was started by
St John’s Church, Southbourne. www.beatscharity.co.uk (British Earthquake And Tsunami Support. Charity No.
1.

Career and Family
• Retired teacher of Music, Religious Education and Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Sex
Education; spanning Nursery School to GCSE, over 4 different schools; secular, Catholic and C of E;
state and private.
• Supported in BEATS and church involvement by my husband, Rob; we have two adult daughters
and four grandchildren. I benefited by growing up in a Christian home.

If elected I will do my best to communicate well with clergy and laity, and raise concerns representing
members of our diocese where and when I am able.
