I am currently Senior Research Associate at University College London, Development Education Research Centre. In this address I present a brief biography, my search for meaningful life and how interactive meontology has led me to approach General Synod.
Each day brings further news of injustices contradicting ‘safeguarding’, gruesome violent Old Testament promises used to justify genocide, theological illiteracy, even Anglican leaders claiming exclusivity! Yet Hieros LOGOS M/manu-factures consent. Mystic phylum survive: RTA excellence, genesis to genetic earth-science, meaningful life as a work of art, perennial wisdom (Proverbs 8). ‘Before Abraham was, I am” (John 8:58): semantics/syntax, vocabulary/grammar, inserts empathic I into yin/yang semiotic trinity inviting each preacher, teacher, parent or priest to articulate ‘dieu’ gospel of love.
Born into a small, warmly-knit community around Christ Church High School, Bombay, head-girl at Kimmins, a Bible Medical Mission Fellowship boarding school, St Margaret’s Teacher Training College with MA in English Literature, my dreams were cut short when my family emigrated to Australia. Marriage into the British Diplomatic Service, a second MA in Applied Linguistics at London University, and tragic inability to have children, prompted teaching, training, conferencing, publications and consultancy for British universities, leading publishers, the British Council, Ministries of Education including the Palestine Liberation Organisation in Jordan, alongside fifteen years tutoring Open University E302 Language and Creativity.
Truely polite politicians hone honesty. Reassuring ‘dharmath’ (fear not) converts magi trauma, deictics unravel/reveal/unveiled personal/personified imago dei. PhD study at the Institute of Education, London University, introduced me to Critical Realism, philosophical theology as dialectical materialism. Rooted in Vedic, Buddhist, Taoist and Christian meta-reality, Roy Bhaskar’s (2000) East to West odyssey of a soul, justified secret/sacred sans script. Sanskrit, supported by Proto-Indo-European mother of European languages, is today considered sound exegetic/hermeneutic basis of computer sciences. Applied linguistics disrupted personal/professional policy, blending political activism, NGO representation, and UNESCO epiphany in Brussels.
Critical Realism nests criteria of systemic, dialectic, holistic, heteroglossic transformation within CHAT, cultural historic activity theory, evidence we might trust, diverse forms of worship merging priorities in prayerful satchitanand, Truth-consciousness-bliss. An Unconditional Pass PhD, resulted in 'The Critical Global Educator: global citizenship education as sustainable development'(Routledge, 2016). In Critical Global Semiotics (Routledge, 2020), 26 authors across 16 countries authenticated multimodal, transdisciplinary discipleship; a memorable book launch united -ologies, heads and hearts, in London.
Last year, as editor of a third Routledge publication, ‘Spiritual Consciousness as Evolutionary Learning: exploring myth, metaphor, magic for sustainability’ (XSCEL) I asked, ‘What IS real?’. I learnt to value Jungian ‘subject’-ivity, to evaluate quantum, chaos causality AND consequentiality, to name whispering phono-semantic conscience as dear atomic p/article of faith. 20 semioticians, theologians, ‘akkademics’ from 15 countries, distinguished mind, proverbial ‘hard-problem’, Eastern embodied metaphor/metonymy from ‘easier’ brain-studies which to-dei explains hyphenated in-formation. XSCEL explained metaphoric s/S/s Brahma, Abrahamic Ur, centrifugal/centripetal breathworking Dev-Ved con-textuality, collective conscious-nous, doubting Tamas and the rest … . Urgent ab-solution, militant Anglican-is-m counters duplicitous diplomacy; Lazarusian spirits require balanced Martha practice and Marian theory to sustain belief, confidence, self-esteem.
Systemic Functional Semiotics, science of significant spirituality, studies all life – spatio-temporal, sensorial, material and symbolic- as search for meaning, word made flesh that dwells amongst us. Miracle haptics abound, Kantian image schema guide Hegelian redemption. Magi imaginations conceive elysian future, conjuring peace, a world beyond war. RSS Time, like an ever-rolling stream(ing), differentiates temporary havens from heaven, alpha-omega palindrome, logical assumptions, doubled vowels and consonants. Astute bishops mitre Mithraic practices, timely change, timing and taming zeit geist: comprehensive, subtle, nuanced frameworks treat RTA, ancient Ur/ U R belief, adopted mytheory, adapted textspeak. ChURch, script-UR-e, conceptual metaphor, Dives/Lazarus ‘temples of living gods’ scrutinise Pauline conversions, ancient/modern history/heritage.
Greek Ithaca identified Om: omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent etymology, morphology, phonology, chias(th)ma … chi/keyword carers, caring enArgetic/exhausted East/West Aramaic energy. However, even Johnny-come-lately tourists to Spain would not mistake metonymy for metaphor.
