I have often wondered why I find myself back in the position of
Churchwarden after what some people would describe as a chequered
history.
I met my wife, Gail, who’s the backbone of our relationship, at Pathfinders
at St Lawrence, Morden. We remained involved with all levels of the youth
work until we got married in 1973. Following a brief spell in Bapchild, we
returned to London and set up and ran the youth club at Christ Church
Sutton with John Hackett. We passed some years on the PCC and in the
early eighties I stepped up to the role of Churchwarden.
Pressures of work, in the international financial markets, dictated that I
take a step back and it wasn’t until the early 2000s that I rekindled my faith
at Warbleton. The path has not been straightforward but I find myself
fulfilling the role of Churchwarden once more.
What do I bring to the General Synod? An understanding of financial
markets; an in depth background in youth work; experience of performing
at a high level in education and sport; an underlying knowledge of the
machinations of the Church of England; but, underpinning it all, a
realisation that God comes first in everything.
