General Synod Election Candidates 2026

I have been a Christian since the age of 15. Over
the past two years, God has entrusted me with
increasing responsibility in serving my local
Anglican church, St Mary’s Loughton. It is this
journey that has led me to stand for General
Synod.
About me
My professional background has equipped me
with expertise in strategy, governance,
organisational improvement and complex
problem-solving. Alongside this, my roles at St
Mary's have given me practical experience of
parish ministry, church leadership and
safeguarding.
When I'm not working or serving at church, you'll
usually find me in the gym or creating Bible-
based health and fitness online content.
Why I am standing for General Synod
General Synod exists to help the Church of
England proclaim Christ faithfully and equip our
parishes for mission. I believe my experience
can contribute in three particular areas.
Growing Younger
Each week I have the privilege of serving around
117 children from approximately 80 families
through our children's and youth ministry.
I see first-hand the openness that many
children, young people and families have to
hearing about Jesus. The future of the Church of
England will not simply be secured through
structures or strategies, but by faithfully making
disciples of the next generation.
I would love to see General Synod continue
encouraging parishes to learn from one another,
sharing good practice so that churches of every
tradition, size and location can reach children,
young people and families with confidence,
creativity and faithfulness.
Stronger in Safeguarding
Safeguarding is Kingdom-critical (Ps 34:18).
As Parish Safeguarding Officer, I oversee
safeguarding compliance for around 182
volunteers and staff across our parish. I have
seen both the importance of robust safeguarding
and the practical challenges of implementing it
well.
General Synod has rightly invested significant
time and effort in strengthening safeguarding in
recent years. The next challenge is ensuring that
safeguarding arrangements remain practical,
proportionate and achievable for parishes of
every size.

Hin’s CV
Born in 1981 in Hong Kong.
Moved to the UK at the age of 15.
Graduated from Imperial College London.
Began my career with PwC before joining Boston
Consulting Group (currently on sabbatical as I
explore more deeply God’s calling to serve in the
Church).
Moved to Loughton, Essex in 2020.
I currently worship at St Mary’s Loughton,
where I serve as:

Large resource churches, small rural churches
and every parish in between face different
challenges. We must protect the vulnerable
while ensuring that faithful volunteers are
equipped, supported and encouraged to serve
rather than overwhelmed by unnecessary
complexity.
Simpler Governance
The Church of England's Vision and Strategy
rightly calls us to become simpler, bolder,
humbler, younger and more diverse.
In my professional life at Boston Consulting
Group, I help organisations solve complex
strategic and organisational challenges. In my
church life, I have the privilege of serving
children, supporting volunteers and
strengthening safeguarding. I hope to bring both
perspectives to General Synod.
Good governance should enable ministry, not
distract from it. I hope to contribute practical
experience that helps ensure national policies
support, rather than burden, parish ministry.
Why vote for me?
I stand in the orthodox tradition of the Church of
England and believe that the Church's life and
mission must remain rooted in Holy Scripture,
the historic creeds and the Great Commission
(Matt 28:18-20).
At the same time, I want our churches to be
places where everyone is welcomed, loved and
treated with dignity as people made in God's
image (Gen 1:27). My hope is that people from
every background will encounter the life-
changing hope of Jesus Christ through our local
churches.
Having been born in Hong Kong and lived in the
UK for the past 30 years, I have experienced the
richness of the different cultures that make up
today’s Church of England. At St Mary's I have
helped to run a Chinese Alpha, enabling Chinese
speakers to explore the Christian faith and
become part of our wider church family. I would
love to see more of our churches equipped to
welcome the diversity of the communities they
serve.
My commitment to you
If elected, I will work hard to represent every
Deanery Synod member across the Diocese of
Chelmsford, listening carefully, serving with
humility and remaining faithful to the calling
God has placed on me.
I will seek to:
• Be prayerful in all that I do;

• Uphold the authority of Scripture and the
historic faith of the Church;

• Support parish ministry and local mission;

• Contribute thoughtfully to the work of
General Synod; and

• Communicate openly with members of
Deanery Synods across the Diocese of
Chelmsford.
