About Evans
I grew up in a Christian home while my father served as
a missionary headmaster with the Church Missionary
Society (CMS), whose work helped establish
Christianity across Eastern Nigeria. Although
surrounded by faith from childhood, I made my own
personal commitment to follow Jesus Christ at the age
of 22.
For 38 years, I have been involved in ministry, offering
teaching, encouragement, and leadership within the
body of Christ. I care deeply about the Church of England—its people, its parishes,
and its long-standing witness to Jesus Christ. Scripture, the creeds, and the Anglican
tradition have shaped my faith, and I aim to serve the Church with humility, integrity,
and prayerfulness.
I am married to Irene, and we are blessed with three grown-up children.
My Theological Foundations
My faith is rooted in the historic Christian tradition. I believe in:

Scripture as the final authority for Christian teaching and daily life
•
The creeds as faithful summaries of the gospel
•
The uniqueness of Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord
•
Our shared identity with the global Anglican Communion
I hold these convictions with clarity, but also with kindness and respect for others.
My Hopes for the Church
I long to see the Church of England strengthened in faith and equipped for mission.
Some of the areas close to my heart include:
•
Helping people grow as disciples and encouraging evangelism in every
tradition
•
Supporting clergy wellbeing and encouraging lay ministry—something I
learned early from my father’s example
•
Ensuring safeguarding is done with excellence and accountability
•
Building strong, healthy parish communities that stay connected to the people
they serve

•
Encouraging transparency and good stewardship in diocesan life
For me, holding on to the Church’s core beliefs is not about looking backwards—it is
about building a faithful future for the next generation.
How I Hope to Serve in Synod
If elected, I intend to work with others in a spirit of cooperation and respect. I aim to:
•
Listen well and engage across different traditions
•
Contribute thoughtfully to committees and legislative work
•
Examine proposals carefully and fairly
•
Support unity while remaining faithful to Christian teaching
I believe serving well is not about winning debates, but about seeking God’s wisdom
for the good of the whole Church.
My Experience and Personal Qualities
I bring experience from parish ministry, corporate work, and public service:
•
I served as Churchwarden at Good Shepherd Church, Romford, for 11 years
and currently serve on both Deanery and Diocesan Synods
•
I served on the Crown Nominations Commission for Chelmsford Diocese
2020/21
•
I am a chartered insurance practitioner and spent 14 years working for a
major global insurance company in various capacities
•
I currently serve as Head of Insurance and PFI Transition at Newham Council
•
I am a founding trustee and Treasurer of the Anglican Igbo Church of the Holy
Trinity, London—a ministry that helps Nigerian Igbos reconnect with their
Anglican heritage and engage more fully in their local parishes
I value prayer, integrity, collaboration, and clear communication. I believe those who
serve in Synod should reflect the character of Christ in all they do.
A Final Word
Serving on General Synod is a significant responsibility. I would be grateful for the
opportunity to serve our parishes and diocese with faithfulness and wisdom. Thank
