WHY AM I STANDING FOR GENERAL SYNOD?
I love Jesus and I love the Church. I want to see the church flourishing and healthy at all
levels so we can be and do all God calls us to be and do.
I am passionate about:
resourcing ministry at the grassroots
outreach to communities who have not traditionally found a welcome in church
developing a robust and undefended safeguarding culture
working out what reconciliation looks like in and beyond the church.
After twenty-five years of lay and ordained leadership in a variety of contexts across five
deaneries, I know Coventry Diocese well. I feel this enables me to value and represent the
breadth of ministry which enriches our corner of the Church of England.
In General Synod in the last quinquennium, I was active and engaged, speaking in
debates on safeguarding, parish resourcing and gender equality. I would be honoured to
be elected to serve you again.

WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO ME?
Frontline Ministry
I have served in five very different churches in the diocese, before moving to the
Cathedral, and am passionate about the missional potential of the local church,
whatever its size or context. I am committed to churches becoming all God calls them to
be as they seek to share the good news and follow Jesus together. I have also worked
closely with local chaplaincy teams and deeply admire their work. Chaplains are often
the unsung heroes of the church and I think we can do better at valuing and learning
from their ministry..
Diversity
I believe diversity is one of God’s good gifts and the church is richer when it makes spaces
for voices that have been - and sadly continue to be - marginalized. I am committed to
equality for everyone, at all levels and roles within the church, regardless of disability,
economic power, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, learning disability, mental health,
neurodiversity or sexuality.

Through my experience at deanery, diocesan and national synods, PCCs and Cathedral
Chapter, Bishops Council and Bishops Core Staff as well as a variety of diocesan
committees, I have developed a broad understanding of how the Church of England
operates, strategically, financially and legally. I am interested in how the work at General
Synod can have a real and positive impact in ordinary church communities.
Safeguarding
I have been responsible for safeguarding in a variety of different contexts. I am keenly
aware of the importance of robust safeguarding and its vital missional nature. I am also
aware of the challenges that worshipping communities face in implementing their
safeguarding responsibilities and advocate for them receiving the support and resources
they need to do this well.
A heart for the whole church
I deeply value the breadth of the Church of England. I believe it is one of our strengths
and am passionate about us learning to value and respect our differences. I am
currently undertaking PhD research in reconciliation, intra-church conflict and what
Coventry’s story can offer. It is not easy to embody Coventry’s values of reconciliation in a
debating chamber, but I continue to do my best!
