General Synod Election Candidates 2026

What picture can I paint in a few words to get your vote for General Synod???
I became a Christian at 17 and was filled with the Holy Spirit in my early 20’s,
my wife and I ran a very successful engineering company and have recently
sold it and retired. (Now some of you are thinking – Middle Class old man!).
I am a Church Warden and Reader in the local church (which is growing even in interregnum),
Deanery Treasurer and member of the Diocesan Synod. My passion, though, is to see people
make commitments to Jesus, and this makes everything worthwhile. In my home church we
have no magical plan on how to get it right, but we try our best to follow what God is saying to
us. It’s His work, and we are privileged to be allowed by Him to join in with what he is doing…. It’s
His work, not ours.
I have a great sense of humour, and I love to think of Jesus smiling and laughing. I have a Season
Ticket at Nottingham Forest, and football is my release… the sense of humour also helps!
Having recently retired, I have taken over the leadership of the church-run food bank, which is a
very fulfilling role. I'm in contact with all types of folks in need and love to share a smile with
clients.
We are a very close-knit family, with my daughter, son-in-law, and 8-year-old granddaughter,
who shares a similar sense of humour to me (poor child)
During the past few years, I have been honoured to lead mission groups to Romania and been a
part of teams going to Estonia and Kenya. It never ceases to amaze me how the Lord uses these
teams to reach out to folk, and I have always come back blessed and encouraged to see Him at
work.
I believe in the bible as the written word of God and often find the Lord speaking to me through
His word. Churchmanship-wise, I would describe myself as a Charismatic Evangelical, but I
certainly don’t think I have all the answers. I genuinely love to hear differing opinions to mine
and value hearing what others think and why.
I would see being appointed to General Synod not only as an honour, but as a chance to
represent the whole church, and I would hope to bring a passion for Jesus in everything I do.
