Elizabeth Steele (Liz)

| have been a member of the Cathedral congregation and community for
about 40 years, moving here when my son became a Server at the age of 9.
During my time here at the Cathedral | spent 6 years as a deputy warden,
then 7 years as Cathedral warden, covering the pandemic years. | was on
Chapter and a member of the Finance committee. | was a member of the
interview panel for our Dean and worked with the diocesan office with
other matters. | have been a member of our deanery synod for some years
and also the diocesan synod.

Prior to all this in my working career | was in education for 40 years, the last
21 as a headteacher in various schools. | was fortunate during my time as a
headteacher to work with a National Education organisation and won a
Headteacher of the year award. On my retirement | became a governor at
the West Suffolk Hospital and then became Lead governor. A role that
involved me working with regional health bodies, overseeing the issues that
occurred at the hospital during my time there.

How does this prepare me for a responsible position on General Synod? |
feel that during all my different roles | have always been prepared to speak
up when it is necessary to do so. | give my whole attention to whatever is
expected of me. | am a good listener, and | always read and interpret
information that is given to me. | have spent many hours, days, weeks in a
worshipful environment. | was ‘introduced’ to church when | was a baby
and at times when | was very young attended three services on a Sunday as
my father was church warden for many years. | have trod that path myself
now and | am still very involved at the Cathedral as a volunteer in particular
the introduction, operating and reconciling of the contactless boxes
throughout the Cathedral.

| feel that this role is something that | have time for and | have the qualities
needed to represent our diocese at.
