Dear Deanery Synod Member,
I am writing to ask you to vote for me in the upcoming General Synod election.
I was called to ministry following a career in finance and teaching. I am currently serving as the
Rector of the Stilton Group of Churches, in the Huntingdon and Wisbech Archdeaconry. I am married
to Phil, with one teenage son Christian, entering sixth form. We have a rescue cat that steals things
and brings unwanted guests home. My husband and I are novice beekeepers. I enjoy handicrafts and
reading. I am also an expert in tsundoku (because buying books is distinct hobby from reading
them!)
My working experience:
• I worked for sixteen years for HSBC, as a branch manager and latterly commercial lending to
large businesses and smaller Public Limited Companies.
• Followed by working for seven years in a secondary school setting, both in the classroom and
as a Head of Department and Assistant Director of Specialism.
• Whilst training for ordination I worked as a buildings and parish administrator for a large
Anglican church in Burgess Hill, Sussex.
My governance experience:
• I have previously served on General Synod, 2016-2021 quinquennium in the House of Laity
for Chichester Diocese. It is this experience and over thirty-five years serving at Diocesan,
Deanery and Parish levels with Bradford, Chichester and Ely dioceses that means I will be an
effective member of General Synod from the outset.
• I am the Chair of the Houses Sub-Committee and a member of the Finance Committee within
Ely Diocese.
• Alongside my Diocesan roles I am a Trustee and the Treasurer for Modern Church, a member
of Ely Together and the Treasurer for The Archbishop’s Examination in Theology Trust
(Lambeth Research Degrees in Theology)
• I have an ongoing interest in education and am passionate about the voice of young people
being heard in our society and our churches. I have served on a number of church and non-
church school governing bodies, three times as Chair of Governors.
My faith background
• I have been a Christian and an active member of the church since the age of thirteen.
• I am a member of the Northumbria Community and really value time on pilgrimage. I have a
contemplative and reflective spirituality, which allows me to feel close to God in a variety of
expressions of faith.
• I am committed to creating an inclusive, open, safe space of hospitality in everything I do.

INCLUSION
I believe that when we look for Jesus, we find him at the margins. I would like to continue to draw
General Synod’s gaze, and actions, to all those who for too long have been left at the margins. I am
committed to equality for everyone, at all levels and roles within the church, regardless of disability,
economic power, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, learning disability, mental health, neurodiversity,
sexuality or age.
PARISH LIFE
I am proud to be a Rector of a multi-parish benefice in a rural area. I am keen to see investment and
support for all parishes, especially rural ones. There is space within the Church of England for
different models and patterns of worship, with various potential funding models and means of
distributing funding. I would like to see General Synod encourage the Church Commissioners to be
more imaginative. I would like to see an equity in funding that better reflects the breadth of the
Church of England.
VARIETY OF ISSUES
The work before General Synod is varied and complex (perhaps the understatement of recent
Synods!). One of the joys of my previous time on General Synod was to be consistently present in the
chamber for both the big issue topics but also for many issues that did not make the headlines but
were highly significant for those impacted. I view all the business of General Synod as important and
if elected commit to engage with all the issues presented before us. I approach the business of
General Synod as one who will listen diligently to the contributions presented, genuinely wishing to
discern the right way forward.
APPROPRIATE FUNDING OF INITIATIVES
General Synod makes many decisions that are required to be implemented at both Diocesan and
Parish Level. I would seek to ensure that when those decisions are made this is supported by due
consideration of the financial implications, the funding source and the support required to bring
these decisions to fruition. Examples of this are the Net Zero Carbon by 2030 and the 30k youth
project.
