St. Mary and St. Ambrose, Edgbaston (Rea Church)

It is with prayer and a deep sense of calling that I put myself
forward to represent the Diocese as a member of the House of
Laity on General Synod.
I have been part of this church family for almost 20 years. Over those years, this
church has become much more than a place of worship for me and my family; it has
truly become our second home. My children have been baptised and confirmed here,
and my husband was also baptised here and confirmed in 2002, having come to faith
from a Hindu background. Our journey as a family has been deeply connected with
this church, and we have built strong relationships and a deep sense of belonging
within this community. I also come from a strong Christian family background. My
parents are pastors in India, and faith has been a central part of my life from an early
age. Christ is at the centre of who I am and how I seek to live my life, and my faith
continues to guide my decisions, my relationships and my desire to serve others. It is
from this foundation that I feel called to step forward and offer myself for service to
the wider Church at this time.
Throughout my time here, I have had the privilege of being involved in many different
areas of church life. I am currently part of Kids Church, help in the cafe and serve as
a member of the PCC. In the past, I have also used my IT skills to help set up and
support the church services on screen. These opportunities to serve have meant a
great deal to me and have allowed me to contribute in different ways to the life of our
church community.
For many years, I have often placed my work, family and other responsibilities ahead
of opportunities to serve more widely. However, I have increasingly felt that God may
be calling me to step forward at this particular time. I have prayed about this carefully
and asked God to guide me as to whether this is the right season for me to take this
step.
If elected, I would want to be a voice for people and families who can sometimes feel
unseen, unheard or alone. In particular, I have a strong desire to represent women
and families who are facing difficult circumstances, including those who are living
away from their extended families and may have little support around them. I also
have urge to support our Youth who are the future of our community to step forward
in knowing how fruitful it is to have a Christ focused life. I believe the Church has an
important role in being a place of welcome, compassion, practical support and hope.
I would also want to listen carefully to the experiences and concerns of people
across our Dioceses. I believe that being a good representative means listening,
learning, asking difficult questions when necessary, and seeking solutions together
in a spirit of Christian love and respect.

My years within the Church of England have given me a deep appreciation for the
importance of community, faith, service and belonging. I would be honoured to have
the opportunity to take the experience I have gained through my church, family and
service into the wider life of the Church through General Synod.
Above all, I want to approach this opportunity prayerfully and with humility, seeking
to serve God, our Church and the people who make up our communities.
