General Synod Election Candidates 2026

I am putting myself forward for election to General Synod. I am
married to Sarah, and together we have three children. I serve
as Vicar of Holmer with Huntington and St Mary’s, following my
curacy at St Laurence’s and St John’s in Ludlow.
I have not stood for Synod before. At times I have wondered
whether I should offer myself for this but held back. This time,
after prayer and reflection, I have sensed God’s gentle nudging
to allow my name to go forward in service of the wider Church.
I came to faith in 2003 in a man’s living room, and since then my life has been shaped by
God’s grace and a deep love for people. My journey has included work as a pipefitter
and in IT, street outreach, prisons, schools, housing estates, rural communities, and life
on a substance rehabilitation working farm.
That varied experience led me into intergenerational mission in Ludlow, the
discernment process, and ordination in 2021. It has deepened my conviction that the
Church is called to be with people: going where people are, listening well, welcoming
them into worship and community, and attending to those whose voices are too easily
missed.
I believe deeply in the local parish church. Our buildings bring challenges, but they are
also places of worship, prayer, welcome, silence and belonging. As a member of Save
the Parish, I would work to speak up for local presence, ministry and witness.
At my diaconal ordination I was reminded that we are called first to serve: our parishes,
the wider Church, and those beyond it. No one church has everything, and I value the
humility and generosity that collaboration requires.
I would also bring concern for the wellbeing of clergy and laity. The pressures of ministry
affect those who serve and their families, and I would want to stand alongside those on
the front line while helping to challenge unrealistic expectations.
My faith began in a living room, and much of my ministry has been shaped by ordinary
places and everyday lives. If elected, I would hope to bring that grounded parish voice to
General Synod, listening especially for those whose voices are too easily missed. With
