Tim Phillips
Long Service
I have served in the Diocese of Leicester for 24 years. For twenty-one of
those, I have served as incumbent of Holy Trinity Ashby and Team Vicar
in the Flagstaff Family of Churches. From 2016, I have also overseen the
ministry at St Matthew’s Worthington, serving three villages. I love the
whole church, and want to serve faithfully as part of our national
governing body.

Over the time I have been in this diocese, I have come to know
people across the breadth of the church’s life and, for a time,
contributed as a member of Diocesan Synod.
I also serve as a committee member for the Leicester Diocesan
Evangelical Fellowship and as one of three chaplains to the
Army Cadet Force in Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and
Rutland.
Market Town and Rural
In Ashby, I oversee the ministry of Ashby Foodbank, our CAP
Debt Help centre, a drop-in cafe called Pathways, a community
gardening project, The Bereavement Journey, and the Alpha
Course.
During my time in Ashby, I have been active in ecumenical
work in the area, seeking to reveal our unity in Christ across
denominations and the breadth of the Church of England.
I currently serve as a Transforming Lives for Good (TLG) Early
intervention coach, meeting with one child for one hour a week
for one school year.
Science, Systems and Faith
In addition to serving the local church and community, I am
interested in science and spaceflight. I have a PhD in Physics
and love to show how scientific discoveries can add depth to
the faith and worship of everyday people. I believe that the
technology, systems, and governance we employ should
faithfully serve the church, not the other way around.
General Synod
General Synod has long been involved in big and heartfelt
debates that have left many other issues unaddressed. We
should now focus on issues that affect local ministry of all
kinds and the lives of local people. In practice, this will mean
Synod making positive changes to clergy pensions, housing,
and stipends; helping us manage the costs associated with VAT
and NetZero; and reforming the Faculty system.
