Relevant Professional Experience
• After a Physics Degree I joined BICC Cables, the
giant multinational company in Prescot, and
became a Chartered Engineer. I saw the human
cost of technology change as Copper Cables were
displaced by Optical Fibres, factories closed, new
ones opened and many lives were changed.
• Aged 44, I retrained, and taught Physics in
Warrington for 12 years. I lived the highs and lows
of our State Education system from the inside.
• Later I helped support my mum in her dementia
until she died and went on to glory at the age of 97.
• I have tutored Physics and I love its power: if you
know Newton’s law of gravity you can get to the
Moon. But if you know Jesus the Way, the Truth and
the Life you will get to heaven!

How has God equipped me?
• My age gives me some years of perspective:
• I am a member of the Liverpool Diocesan
Evangelical Fellowship (LDEF).
• I attend the St Helens Minster Book Group (my
former church) where I have friends who do not
share my orthodox Anglican stance on LLF.
• My early life was in Two Continents. Born in
Africa, I was educated in Uganda, Kenya & the UK.
• I witnessed the life-giving impact of the East
African Revival, a deep Christ-centred
unity across racial and tribal barriers -
evidence for me that Christianity is
true, not just ‘true for you’!
• Since 2006 I have run Education-based charity
work helping South Sudanese refugees in Uganda.
• I have experienced both a Fit for Mission Larger
Single Parish (Church St Helens) and a traditional
parish (St Luke’s, part of the Eccleston Team).
• I lead services & preach in three local churches.
• I have asked questions at General Synod
• I have reported back to Diocesan Synod
• I chair a Local Charitable Trust with a £2.2
Million endowment to benefit the community. One
£5,000 grant was matched by DIP money and the
local vicarage gained new doors and windows.
• I also manage a small Woodland linked with this
Trust: birdsong is a true balm for mental health!
• Discipleship: My family had to leave Uganda
when I was 16, partly due to the Islamist dictator Idi
Amin. Now I meet those fleeing from Iran, and
some have turned from Islam to follow Christ. I
helped lead Come, Follow Me, a Discipleship
Course for both Farsi and English speakers. One
Iranian received an answer to his prayer and
exclaimed, “Now I know the real God!”
• Music in Worship. Recently my wife and I sang in
the backing choir for Jubilate Music’s Gathered to
Go, 13 Songs and Hymns for ordinary services.
• I am a member of the local branch of Good News
for Everyone. We offer free Scriptures
and it seems there is hunger for the
Bible, especially among Gen Z. The
latest publication is ‘EXPLORE
Christmas, Luke’s Gospel’.

Why am I standing?
As a lay Reader and former Church Warden with a
scientific, teaching and Engineering background, I
believe I can contribute to General Synod more
effectively than before, now I know the ropes!

What motivates me?
Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and
forever. His words will never pass away. He is Lord
of the Church and Saviour from sin and death. In
Him is fullness of joy and life eternal. It is a joy to
share this message with all who hunger for it.
