General Synod
Candidate for the House of Clergy
Diocese of London
I would like to offer myself to serve the Diocese of London and the wider Church, standing for election to the
General Synod.
I am a Curate serving in a diverse and vibrant inner-city London church in Clerkenwell. I have also experienced the
daily life of rural parish churches in Oxfordshire, Herefordshire and Cambridgeshire as part of my upbringing. I was
born in India and lived there until the age of 15 before moving to the UK in 2005.
Before ordination, I worked in a commercial role for a number of years, which has shaped my ministry enormously.
These experiences have shaped how I see the Church. I have had the joy of walking alongside experienced clergy,
serving people of many different ages and backgrounds, and seeing both the strengths of the Church of England and
the pressures facing local churches today.
Why the General Synod
I am standing for General Synod because decisions made by this body have the ability either to strengthen or to
weaken the ministry of local churches across our nation.
I believe the parish remains one of the Church of England’s greatest gifts. I want to see our parishes flourishing in
every community — confident in proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ, welcoming people into Christian faith,
caring for those around them, and nurturing disciples for the next generation.
Synod can make a real difference. The recent work on clergy pensions is one example of how national decisions can
have a lasting and tangible impact on the lives and wellbeing of clergy, their families and the communities they
serve. As a younger clergyman, I want to contribute to the conversations that will shape the future of the Church and
clergy like me.
I also want to ask how we can steward the resources God has entrusted to the Church wisely and generously. Where
resources are available, I want us to keep asking how they can best support clergy, strengthen local ministry, and
enable gospel mission. For me, this is not simply a financial question, but a missional one.
What I would bring
The Church makes better decisions when the people making those decisions better represent and understand the
breadth of the Church on whom those decisions have an impact.
My experience of living in India and the UK, together with ministry in both rural and inner-city settings, equips me to
bring a particular intercultural perspective on an increasingly diverse Church.
With nearly half my life shaped by a Global Majority Heritage context and over half by life in the UK — including
pastoral ministry in inner-city London — I hope especially to bring an understanding of the distinct experiences, gifts
and challenges of Global Majority Heritage clergy and of younger generation ministers.
I am an evangelical, rooted in Scripture and committed to the historic faith of the Church of England. I am also
encouraged by the breadth of traditions that our Church holds. I am clear about my convictions while listening
carefully and respectfully to those with whom I may disagree.

If elected, I will approach Synod discussions and decision-making with both conviction and grace: by listening
carefully, speaking thoughtfully and working constructively with those across our traditions, whilst always asking
what best serves Christ, his Church, and the mission entrusted to us.
Listening carefully also means listening to survivors of abuse, and ensuring that safeguarding is upheld with the
seriousness, independence and professionalism our churches deserve.
My years in the commercial sector have taught me to communicate clearly, listen to different perspectives, and work
through complex decisions. They have also given me opportunities to meet people from many walks of life and to
learn how to speak about my Christian faith in a winsome and gracious way.
I would be grateful for the opportunity to bring these experiences, together with the perspective of a younger parish
priest in training, to the work of General Synod.
It would be a privilege to serve the Diocese of London and the wider Church, seeking to see the Church of England
flourish in every community, faithful to Christ, generous towards one another, and confident in its gospel mission.
