General Synod Election Address 2026
House of Laity
Who am I?
I am a 25 year-old ordinand, auntie to two nieces and MPhil
student at Wycliffe Hall. I am researching the history of
catechesis in England. In my spare time I love to walk along the
coast, sew, dance, sing and spend time with family and friends.
My Experience
I grew up attending my village’s parish church near St Albans. I
remember deciding to follow Jesus during worship at a Sunday
service as a child and am so grateful for the nurture and
opportunities to grow I received there.
After a gap year as a New Wine Discipleship Year Student at St
Mellitus Church, Hanwell (2019-2020) I moved to Cambridge to
study Theology, Religion and Philosophy of Religion. While there I
served as a Co-President of Just Love Cambridge, a student
society seeking to equip and release Christian students into the
biblical call to justice. After my degree I stayed to work with
students at Holy Trinity Church and was deeply blessed by
joining Lyn’s House, an ecumenical community of friends with
and without intellectual disabilities.
Over the last five years I have served on a Falcon camp, a fun
holiday for young people who might not otherwise get a summer
holiday where we explore together what it means to follow Jesus.
This is my favourite week of the year!
I moved to Oxford in October 2025 to begin my training at
Wycliffe Hall when I also joined St. Clement’s. Earlier this year I
was elected as a Deanery Lay Representative for the parish.
Why I am standing for General Synod
My Commitment to You
Proposer: Ian Smith
Seconder:
Having grown up in the Church of England I am excited to have the
opportunity to serve on General Synod to ensure every person has
the opportunity to hear and respond to the greatest news of all time. I
am especially interested to contribute to discussion on:
Discipleship and Christian Education - my current research
stems from a deep interest in how we can disciple people well in
our time and contexts to follow Jesus whole-heartedly.
Parish Life - I love the parish system at the core of our church
and believe it is a powerful tool for reaching a country with the
gospel. I want to see every parish, whether rural, urban, or
somewhere in-between, released to love their neighbours and to
live missionally in their community.
Safeguarding - It is so important we get this right. I want to see
the Church of England take positive steps in this quinquennium
to be a safe place for all.
If you choose to vote for me, I would commit to:
Listening well - I will seek to understand different perspectives,
and work for the unity of the Church.
Hold faithfully to the truth of Scripture and the apostolic faith
passed down to us.
Thank you for reading my address. If you have any questions please
don’t hesitate to drop me an email. I would be very grateful if you
would consider giving me your first or highest available preference
vote.
With many thanks and every blessing in Christ,
Hannah Fox
