I am passionate about helping the Church make good decisions: decisions
that are rooted in prayer, informed by a range of voices, and shaped by
our shared calling to the full breadth of God's mission. One of the things I
value most is listening well, especially when experiences and perspectives
differ, and helping people find a way forward together.
I believe it is important that General Synod reflects the richness and
diversity of the Church of England. In my role as Archdeacon, I have the
privilege of working with clergy and parishes from across a wide range of
traditions, contexts and communities. Over almost five years in
Peterborough Diocese I have built strong relationships with many clergy
and church communities, supporting them through times of opportunity,
challenge and change. Those experiences have given me a deep
appreciation of the realities of ministry in our diocese.
I have previously served on General Synod and understand both the
opportunities and responsibilities of the role. Having now served in
Peterborough for almost five years, I would be honoured to represent the
voices of our clergy and parishes at Synod and to ensure that the
experiences of this diocese are heard within national discussions.
Much of my current work involves helping parishes and clergy navigate
legal, governance, safeguarding and pastoral issues. I see everyday how
decisions made nationally can have a significant impact locally. I would
bring to Synod both the stories of our churches and communities and a
practical understanding of how policy and legislation affect the life and
ministry of parishes on the ground. Good decision-making requires us not
only to debate ideas but also to understand their consequences for those
serving faithfully in local churches.
I also bring significant experience in ecclesiastical law and safeguarding,
including serving on our Diocesan Safeguarding Advisory Panel. At a time
when the Church continues to face important questions in these areas, I
believe this experience would enable me to contribute constructively and
thoughtfully to the work of Synod.
Above all, I would seek to be a faithful voice, listening carefully,
representing faithfully, and contributing positively to the life of our
national Church.
