I am a member of St Giles
Anglican/ Methodist Church,
Desborough, which has been an
LEP since 1969. I started going
during my engagement to wife,
Ann, some 39 years ago.
As a Methodist Anglican I joined
the Church Council, become a
Steward and so onto Circuit
Meeting member then joined the Northampton District
Synod and, finally the Methodist Conference.
Now I have been a member of the Kettering Deanery Synod
for some time and recently the Peterborough Diocesan
Synod, and I have realised that General Synod elects every 5
years.
I started the St Giles Christmas Tree Festival
by going to the Church Council and
suggesting it. They said I would have to run it.
So for more than twenty five years I have
been involved in the running of the longest
running Christmas Tree Festival in the UK. The
festival has raised over £100,000 for St Giles
Church.
I have taken my experience to other churches and given talks
on running Christmas Tree festivals.
After my first degree, I joined the Army, then the
Leicestershire Constabulary before I ended up in the NHS for
the past 18 years. I have worked in IT since leaving the Police
I am a local council councillor for the St Giles ward.
Like most people, my journey to Christ has been long and
varied. I have been exposed to other religions, Hinduism and
Islam whilst growing up in Malaysia, Eastern Mysticism at
University. However, as a child I was baptised by the
Methodist minister on a RAAF base, attended Sunday School
at the local Anglican Church and eventually found Jesus
Christ, who had been there all along, at a Spring Harvest
holiday.
I wish to join General Synod as it is the body that can change
things. When I was a member of the Methodist Conference, I
was able to propose motions, debate with others and make
changes that affected one sponsoring partner of my church, I
now wish to affect the other sponsoring partner on the
General Synod.
