Revd Tim Fox – Election Address August 2026

‘How wonderful, how precious it is when God’s people live
together in unity. It is like costly oil on the head… It is the
like the dew of Hermon... this is where the Lord has
promised his blessing.’ (Psalm 133).

I have been gently cajoled into standing for General
Synod, and as a vicar and area dean who cares deeply
about Anglican unity, and the Anglican church, and is used
to working positively across theological traditions, I felt I
should be brave and put myself forward.

So why vote for me? Well, simply this: I understand that this next Synod is
considered significant to many, for various reasons, and that there is danger of
argument and division, particularly over the continuing debate on human sexuality.
Whilst I myself am known for holding an inclusive posture, I want to say this:

I am convinced that we need each other; conservatives, liberals, catholics,
charismatics, evangelicals, progressives… whatever language or label is used; we
need each other. I truly believe that the Church of England’s most beautiful feature is
its diversity of tradition and thought. I truly believe we are all at our most beautiful
when we learn from each other; and when we practice unity and love even in
disagreement.

We are all Anglicans, and the Anglican church has always been the ‘via media’ – the
middle way, a way that holds together difference and diversity in a loving unity that
(at best) is reflective of the unity-in-diversity present in the very heart of the Godhead
– the vibrant circle dance of the Trinity itself.

So, I will keep this short and finish where I started. I honestly believe that, as the
Psalmist seems to say, when God’s people live together in unity, the Lord promises
blessing.

A vote for me is a vote for someone who will, first and foremost - and with no
exceptions - commit to seeking that blessing.
