Peter Harris has lived in Southwell, Nottinghamshire since 1988. He worships at
Holy Trinity Church in the town and is an active member of its PCC, and the Ne-
wark and Southwell Deanery Synod. Previously, Peter was an actuarial underwrit-
er in the City of London. He was the Senior Independent Director at a large
General District Hospital Trust and a Lay Representative at Health Education Eng-
land where he monitors, as a non medic, the training of the Resident - previously
known as Junior - Doctors, training in their specialist areas, and Advanced Nurses
and other Clinicians across the East Midlands. He is Co-Chair of the Universities of
Nottingham’s and Lincoln’s Medical School’s Professional and Values Behaviours
Committee. He has presented at national and international conferences. Peter
has chaired the Audit Commitee of a large District Council. He is very involved in
the local community and is the Trustee of a number of local and regional chari-
ties, and is a Chair or Vice Chair of a number. Peter also owns and runs a small
manufacturing company exporting 98% of the production to the USA and Canada.
Peter believes in putting his Chirtian values into practice and service
Peter was elected to the Diocesan Synod in 2018, and in the last election to the General Synod. He serves
on the Southwell and Nottingham’s Bishop’s Council and reports back to the Synod and was re-elected to
the Council last year. Peter also sits on the Diocesan Board of Education where he has proposed and led a
number of initiatives with schools - including the Church School’s Celebration.
Peter is committed to extending the work of the Church across the Dioces-
es He wants to support all types of worship with diversity across the coun-
try. He will campaign to ensure that our work in every parish continues and
that every parish is enabled to have Christian leadership in it. He is keen to
support the work of the Church in our local schools, and is committed to
worship that engages all parts of our diverse community and the work of
the Church Commissioners to support this. Peter committed to equality for
everyone, at all levels and roles within the church, regardless of disability,
economic power, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, learning disability, mental
health, neurodiversity, or sexuality. New and old styles of worship are really
important to our church goers and the whole of the Church of England. The
Synod should be seeking to support worship to those not currently con-
nected to their Church and Peter wants to support actions at the national
and local level to encourage these developments.

Peter is a person of independent thought - listening carefully to the
voice of the Lord and to those who speak around him. He is a regular
contributor in meetings and is prepared to voice his view. He listens
to others and is prepared to change his mind. Peter is a member of
the Southwell and Nottingham Diocesan Advisory Committee on
Church Buildings and sits on the Bishop’s Council so is well aware of
the issues facing the finances of parishes and deaneries. Peter was
elected to the General Synod in the last triennium
