I am offering to serve St Albans Diocese and the wider Church as a clergy representative on
General Synod. I am praying for us during this voting period: that the Holy Spirit would help us
to discern who to elect and give us peace about those decisions. I ask that you would place me
as your first (or as high as possible) preference, however, my desire is that God’s will be done.

Particular areas of interest:
Self-Supporting (Ordained) Ministry
My recent appointment to SSM Officer for
Bedford Archdeaconry has ignited in me a
passion for SSM. With decreasing church
membership and financial giving, how can
SSM contribute to the future of the Church of
England? How can SSM be supported and
given due attention, rather than it being an
afterthought or an inferior option? I am
currently engaging with my ‘own’ SSMs to
understand their unique circumstances and
how best to represent them; I wish to extend
this advocacy beyond St Albans Diocese.
Rural Ministry
As a former Baptist, one of the aspects of the
Church of England that I love is the parish
system that enables everyone in the country
to have a local parish church. However, rural
ministry is hard; I have learned of the
challenges, from colleagues in our Deanery
Chapter and in person, when I have visited
churches and covered services across
Sharnbrook Deanery. I have no answers, but
acknowledge the plight of rural parishes and
want to do what I can to sustain and even
revitalise our rural churches, God willing.
Racial Justice
Having experienced some discrimination as a
British-born Chinese woman, I am only
starting to realise how much other GMH/UKME
people suffer. In The Teahouse network, our
experiences as Anglican clergy of Chinese
heritage are as different as our personal
circumstances and cultural backgrounds; how
much more different are experiences from
other ethnicities. As I learn more and notice
instances of racial injustice, I aim to increase
awareness and take action for those of us who
are marginalised or made to feel inferior
because we are in the minority.
The Way Forward Together
Division within the Church makes my heart
ache and my spirit grieve. Ordained only since
2022, I have questioned, “Lord, have you
called me to the Church of England only to
leave?” No. I believe that God has called me to
be part of the Church at this time and to work
hard to find the way forward together in
matters of doctrine and practice. I endeavour
to listen prayerfully and generously, with grace
and compassion, to God’s Word and to other
people as General Synod explores issues such
as those undertaken by the Relationships,
Sexuality and Gender groups.

Who is Min-Min?

I am a Self-Supporting Minister (SSM) at
Clapham Parish Church, a parish on the
edge of Bedford and in Sharnbrook Deanery,
giving half of my time to ministry (officially).
Having undertaken my curacy there (2022 to
2025), I was delighted that God affirmed my
call to stay on as Associate Minister (from

and continue my ministry and

relationships within the church and wider
village community.

In addition to the usual priestly duties, I
thank the Lord for the opportunity to support
bereaved people in setting up The
Bereavement Journey course in Clapham. I
am energised and exhausted in equal
measure by various responsibilities in our
Powerpoint Holiday Club (led jointly with
Clapham Methodists). I revel in weekly
Collective Worship, sharing Jesus with our
Ursula Taylor CofE primary school next door. I
am excited in anticipation of the miracles that
the Lord will do for our New Hall Project, not
least bringing the funding in.

With the other half of my time, I am available
for work as a management consultant
specialising in group process facilitation
(designing and delivering meetings and
workshops). Because of my scientific
background (doctorate in Molecular Biology),
my clients have often been Research &
Development organisations but since starting
a family, professional engagements have
been few and are often pro bono e.g.
facilitating a strategy day for Bedford
Foodbank.

Thus, the non-ministry half of my time is
given to caring for (and transporting) my
family; when I write I am ‘self-supporting’, I
really mean ‘husband-supported’. Chris, our
two teenagers and I live in Sandy. The 30-
minute-plus commute to Clapham, Bedford
may at first seem non-ideal, but the family
logistics work well due to God’s providence
(and the diocese) placing me just around the
corner from Bedford Modern School where
both children attend.

I believe this flexibility in my ministry and life affords me the opportunity to take on
additional church-related roles, as God requires. Currently I am SSM Officer for Bedford
Archdeaconry, Chapter Clerk of Sharnbrook Deanery, Secretary of the Diocesan Evangelical
Fellowship and on the Planning Group for the 150th Anniversary of St Albans Diocese. If I am
elected to General Synod, I believe that my work as a General Synod representative could be
undertaken without impinging too much on parish or home life responsibilities.

Calling to Christ

I grew up in a Christian home and I don’t
remember a time when I didn’t know God.

Joining the Christian Union at secondary
school prompted me to accept Jesus as Lord
and Saviour just in case I hadn’t already
done so! I was baptised when I was 13 years
old at Morningside Baptist Church in
Edinburgh.

From that age, I have been active in Christian
activities: street evangelism during the
Edinburgh Festival, church mission to a
housing estate in a different part of town,
leading the student Christian Union, teaching
Sunday School, leading church small groups,
and leading the worship band.
Calling to Ordained Ministry

My calling is to Motherhood, Music and
Ministry. I never anticipated that the Lord
would call me to ordained ministry.

In 2009, I was reviewing the strategy for my
business but in the back of my mind was
‘How to combine work, faith and music?’ God
gave me the words ‘Motherhood and Music’.
The children arrived and I enjoy some sort of
music ministry beyond my local church:
lunchtime recitals, comprising secular and
sacred songs, through which I share my
Christian faith.

In 2016, at a Seeking the Way course, God
powerfully called me to ordained ministry and
the rest is history . . .
