I am standing for election to the House of Laity because I believe the Church of
England has to maintain a Christian presence in every community.
I live in East Woodhay, the northernmost part of the diocese and in the Thames
watershed. My house is beside the county boundary, a river which flows to
Westminster, a near constant connection to both Church House and Lambeth Palace.
I support the network called Save the Parish, and the ideas of Save our Parsonages.
The parish remains one of the Church of England’s great gifts.
I will work for:
• proper funding for frontline stipendiary ministry.
•
fair treatment and realistic workloads for our clergy.
•
us to be in love and charity with our neighbours.
•
protection of parsonages as tools for pastoral care, hospitality and rooted
ministry.
•
recognition and support for volunteers.
•
parish and Book of Common Prayer as effective machines for the cure of souls
and hearing, reading, marking, learning and inward digestion of the Word.
•
an explicit and robust state of Christ’s Church militant here in earth.
•
the liturgy as protection.
The General Synod could encourage church growth. For example, new housing
estates might include prominently placed churches.
If elected I will:
•
stand for the authority of scripture and the doctrinal standards of the Church of
England, the 39 articles for example.
•
defend and strengthen the parish system.
•
support and collaborate with clergy and congregations in the faithful exercise
of their ministry.
I offer myself as a prayerful lay voice who will aim to foster the glory of God, the
Gospel, the law of Moses and the Prophets, and the flourishing of churches.
I would be honoured to represent the diocese of Winchester. I ask for your first
preference vote and your prayers.
